Philosophy
Cabin is designed to begin with almost nothing and become substantial only when your project needs more structure.
The shape of the app
Cabin is not trying to make writing feel productive. It is trying to make the work feel owned, spacious and undisturbed.
Cabin starts as a blank writing environment. Writers can add chapters, sections, acts, character cards, events, timelines, research and worldbuilding only when those things serve the work.
Nothing enters the room before the manuscript asks for it.
No feature should make writing feel secondary. Planning, research and worldbuilding are supported, but the manuscript remains the center of the interface.
Everything else is furniture around the sentence.
Projects live in local folders chosen by you. Files should be human-readable, portable and useful outside the app, with Markdown as the foundation.
Ownership must remain practical when Cabin is closed.
Writers should resize and arrange their workspace, but Cabin should remain recognizable. Customization should support the work instead of becoming another project.
A movable room still needs architecture.
Interactions should feel straightforward, quiet and deliberate. Even complex workflows should retain whitespace, soft surfaces and architectural calm.
A feature that interrupts thought has failed, however clever it is.
AI can notice grammar, pacing, plot and continuity concerns. It should not replace you, generate your work or pressure you into accepting its opinion.
Cabin may question a sentence. It never claims the sentence.
Cabin should export cleanly to formats such as Markdown, DOCX, PDF and EPUB. You own the exported files without visible or hidden watermarks.
A trustworthy room never locks the door behind you.
Plugins may add panels, commands, views, themes and small utilities. They extend Cabin without replacing the core writing experience.
Growth belongs at the edges; the quiet page remains intact.
